Officials said the tricycle driver and another passenger sustained severe injuries and are receiving intensive medical care. The Director of Public Affairs at the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Adebayo Taofiq, confirmed the incident in a statement.

According to him, preliminary findings show the articulated truck, while negotiating a difficult bend under the Ijora Bridge, lost control and toppled onto the tricycle carrying passengers.

Security personnel from nearby divisions reportedly intervened quickly to stop angry bystanders from setting the truck on fire. “Our preliminary checks revealed the container-laden truck flipped onto a commercial tricycle along Ijora Causeway inward Ijora 7Up, instantly killing two occupants, including a police officer,” Taofiq said.

The officer’s remains were later taken to a morgue in Yaba, while family members of the second victim a female passenger collected her body at the scene.

Rescue officials managed to pull the injured tricycle driver and another passenger from the wreckage alive, though both suffered serious leg fractures. They were transported by Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) to Jimsan Hospital, Ijora, for urgent treatment.

The General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, extended condolences to the bereaved families and wished the surviving victims a full recovery. He also commended emergency responders and security agents for their quick action, which prevented further casualties and kept the situation from escalating.

Bakare-Oki urged truck drivers and operators of articulated vehicles to take extra caution on bridges and busy corridors to avoid similar tragedies.
