We Want Petroleum Products at Reasonable Prices, Says DAPPMAN
DAPPMAN urged Dangote Refinery to make fuel supply cheaper and more accessible nationwide.
Marketers stressed transparent bulk arrangements would stabilize prices, end queues and improve petroleum product distribution.
The Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria (DAPPMAN) has appealed to the Dangote Refinery to make its fuel supply more accessible and affordable, arguing that wider distribution would help stabilize the market and eliminate fuel queues nationwide.
Speaking on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Wednesday, DAPPMAN spokesperson Ikem Ohia called for closer collaboration with the refinery, saying that marketers are not in dispute with Dangote but simply want a transparent, consistent arrangement for bulk supply.
He explained that marketers’ main priority is regular availability at competitive prices, noting that Nigerians should not be left queuing at filling stations due to restricted supply. According to him, access and pricing remain the biggest hurdles despite the refinery’s dominant position in the market.
Ohia highlighted the association’s extensive distribution network, with depots in Lagos, Warri, Port Harcourt, and Calabar, and urged Dangote to leverage these facilities to meet growing demand. He added that DAPPMAN members also run hundreds of filling stations across the country, but limited supply has constrained their ability to meet customer needs.
While rejecting claims that marketers are seeking subsidies, Ohia said negotiations with the refinery have focused on bulk supply and fair pricing. He noted that in global practice, refineries prioritize selling large volumes to off-takers to ensure continuous production and prevent shortages.
