The assault took place around 5:00 a.m. on Friday, September 26, as congregants gathered for dawn prayers. Eyewitnesses reported that the gunmen stormed the mosque and opened fire indiscriminately, killing five people on the spot and injuring several others.

A resident, who asked not to be named for safety reasons, said the attackers also seized an unknown number of worshippers and fled into the nearby forest. The source described the incident as “shocking and brutal,” adding that some injured victims are now receiving treatment and are showing signs of recovery.

This latest attack occurred less than a week after a similar incident in Gidan Turbe, also in Tsafe LGA, where about 40 worshippers were reportedly abducted during early morning prayers.

Funeral prayers have since been held for the five victims, who community members remembered as devout worshippers known for their regular attendance at the mosque. The tragedy has sparked widespread anger and grief, with residents urging authorities to step up security measures in Tsafe and across Zamfara to curb recurring violence.
