Court Rejects No Case Submission by IPOB Leader Nnamdi Kanu

A Federal High Court ruled Nnamdi Kanu must face terrorism charges filed by the government.

Justice Omotosho dismissed his requests, saying the IPOB leader has a case to answer.

The Federal High Court in Abuja has ruled that Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), must respond to terrorism charges brought against him by the federal government.

Justice James Omotosho on Thursday dismissed Kanu’s “no-case submission,” stating that the prosecution had presented enough evidence to warrant a full defence. The judge held that the IPOB leader “has a case to answer” and should proceed to defend himself on the charges.

In the same ruling, the court also turned down Kanu’s application to be moved from the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) to the National Hospital in Abuja. His legal team had argued that his health had deteriorated and sought a medical assessment outside DSS facilities. Justice Omotosho held that the request was not justified based on the materials before the court.

With the decision, the trial will now continue with Kanu expected to open his defence at the next sitting.
