Operatives of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) have rescued a 16-year-old domestic worker allegedly abused and tortured by her employer in the Gwarimpa area of Abuja.

According to a statement released by the agency on Friday, September 26, 2025, the teenager was freed after neighbors raised the alarm and alerted authorities.
NAPTIP said preliminary findings showed that the girl, originally from Imo State and the only child in her family, had been caring for her employer’s three children including newborn twins and a seven-year-old while the employer worked night shifts. The agency reported that she sustained severe burns after being doused with hot water. Concerned residents rushed her to hospital and immediately contacted NAPTIP, triggering the rescue operation.
The agency confirmed that a full investigation has begun and pledged that everyone involved in the incident will face prosecution. It further urged members of the public to promptly report any suspected cases of human trafficking, child labour, or abuse to the authorities to help protect vulnerable individuals.
