FG Announces October 1 Public Holiday for Independence Day

Nigeria will mark its 65th Independence Anniversary on Wednesday, October 1, with a public holiday.

Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo urged citizens to celebrate peacefully and support national unity and progress.

The Federal Government has declared Wednesday, October 1, 2025, a public holiday to celebrate Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary.

Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the announcement in a statement signed by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Magdalene Ajani.

Tunji-Ojo congratulated Nigerians at home and abroad on the milestone, calling on them to uphold unity, patriotism, and resilience that have kept the country together since independence.

He also urged citizens to support President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which aims at national renewal, economic growth, and shared prosperity.

The minister expressed optimism that with collective effort, Nigeria will continue to achieve peace and development, while wishing everyone a happy 65th Independence Day.
