Kaduna Court Orders Detention of Social Media Activist Over Cybercrime Allegations
A Kaduna Magistrate Court has remanded social media personality Abubakar Muhammad, known as Sarki Sultan.
He faces charges of criminal intimidation and extortion brought by the Department of State Services.
A Magistrate Court in the Rigasa area of Kaduna on Monday directed that social media personality Abubakar Muhammad, widely known as Sarki Sultan, be held at the Kaduna Correctional Centre over alleged online offences.

The Department of State Services (DSS) brought Muhammad before the court on two charges of criminal intimidation and extortion, said to violate provisions of the Penal Code.
Court filings claim the defendant operated multiple false social media profiles, which he allegedly used to threaten and demand money from a complainant. Investigators say he requested payment through cryptocurrency transfers and Point of Sale (POS) agents, and allegedly tried to lure the complainant to an undisclosed venue under questionable conditions.
The DSS prosecutor informed the court that digital evidence such as the accounts, payment records and online conversations will be introduced during the trial to support the allegations.
The Magistrate directed that Muhammad remain in custody until the next hearing date, which has been postponed to a future session.
