The Federal Government has announced the cancellation of the parade earlier scheduled to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day on October 1, 2025.

In a statement released by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Director of Information and Public Relations, Segun Imohiosen, explained that the decision was not intended to reduce the importance of the national celebration. He apologized for any inconvenience the development may cause, assuring that other activities lined up for the anniversary would go ahead as planned.
Imohiosen added that the government remains dedicated to marking the occasion with dignity, while also appreciating the cooperation of Nigerians, members of the diplomatic community, and invited guests. He urged citizens to continue supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s reform agenda aimed at building a stronger and more prosperous nation.
Earlier on Monday, a press briefing was held in Abuja as part of the anniversary program. At the event, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, emphasized that the president’s Renewed Hope Agenda is more than a political catchphrase. According to him, it is already making an impact on citizens’ lives and will remain a guiding principle in the years ahead.
The minister further described October 1 as a moment of reflection for Nigerians, urging the public to assess the country’s progress since independence and unite around a common vision of national renewal and growth.
