Makinde Raises Lautech Hospital Guards’ Pay After Emotional Appeal
Governor Seyi Makinde has ordered the absorption of 67 Lautech Hospital security guards as state ad-hoc staff.
Their monthly pay will rise from ₦18,800 to ₦80,000 starting in October.
Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has intervened in the case of 67 security guards at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (Lautech) Hospital, following an emotional appeal from the workers during a recent event at the facility.

One of the guards, given the chance to speak, narrated their long-standing struggles and reminded the governor of an earlier protest in June 2021 that yielded no results. He explained that despite being indigenes of the state and serving at the hospital for years, their welfare had been neglected, leaving them unable to provide for their families.
The governor then asked about their wages, to which one guard responded that they received only ₦18,800 monthly. A hospital official clarified that the guards were employed through a private contractor that collected ₦27,000 per worker.
In response, Governor Makinde announced an immediate intervention. He directed that all 67 guards be absorbed as ad-hoc staff of the state, with a new monthly salary of ₦80,000 starting from October.
