Rivers Governor Fubara Dismisses Commissioners and Public Officers
Governor Siminalayi Fubara has dissolved his cabinet, ending the appointments of commissioners and aides.
The action follows a Supreme Court judgment, signaling a major shake-up in Rivers State politics.
Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has dismissed all commissioners and public office holders in his administration.

The decision, announced on Wednesday evening in Port Harcourt through a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, takes immediate effect. It follows the recent Supreme Court ruling on the state’s political situation.
During a valedictory session with his cabinet at Government House, Port Harcourt, held to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary, Fubara expressed gratitude to the outgoing officials for their service over the past two years.
The statement noted, “Rivers State Governor, His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has thanked members of his cabinet for their services and contributions to the development of the state in the last two years… the Governor has relieved all Commissioners and other public officers affected by the recent Supreme Court judgment of their appointments with immediate effect.”
The governor also assured residents of his commitment to lead the state “with renewed vigour,” while appreciating the support of Rivers people and extending Independence Day wishes to Nigerians.
The development comes weeks after the end of emergency rule in the state. The former administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.), had earlier suspended commissioners, advisers, and heads of parastatals appointed by Fubara when he took over during the federal government’s intervention.
Since Ibas left office on September 18, the fate of Fubara’s appointees had been unclear. The Rivers State House of Assembly, during its first sitting after the emergency period, urged the governor to present a new list of commissioners for screening along with the 2025 budget.
