Stop Badmouthing Your Nation, Remi Tinubu Appeals to Nigerians
First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has urged Nigerians to stop speaking negatively about the country, saying global perceptions are shifting.
She described Nigeria as a land of opportunities while calling for unity and national pride.
Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has called on citizens to refrain from speaking negatively about the country, stressing that Nigeria is no longer defined by its past image as “the most corrupt nation.”

She made the appeal on Thursday, October 2, 2025, during a courtesy visit to the Emir of Akko, His Royal Highness Alhaji Umar Muhammad Atiku, as part of her two-day working trip to Gombe State.
According to Mrs Tinubu, the international perception of Nigeria is steadily changing, with the nation increasingly being viewed as a land of opportunities. She urged Nigerians to embrace this renewed image and promote unity and confidence in their country.
The First Lady noted that her experiences abroad reveal growing curiosity and admiration for Nigeria. She said many people outside the country now see Nigeria as an attractive destination and expressed optimism about the nation’s future.
While commending Gombe’s natural scenery, Mrs Tinubu compared it favorably to well-known landscapes in Europe. She explained that the state’s environment, alongside the cultural and human potential across the country, should give Nigerians more reasons to take pride in their nation.
She further linked her message of national pride to the administration’s ongoing investments in education, security, and grassroots empowerment, adding that traditional and religious leaders have critical roles in shaping citizens’ outlook.
Mrs Tinubu emphasized that her work is guided by the desire to contribute to Nigeria’s long-term progress, stating that she wants to see a safer and more prosperous country even after the end of her husband’s tenure as president.
As part of the visit, the Emir of Akko conferred on her the traditional title of Sarauniyar Yaki (Queen Warrior) of the emirate, describing it as recognition of her efforts to protect and uplift vulnerable groups across Nigeria.
