Atiku Faults Tinubu’s Plateau Visit, Says Nigerians’ Welfare Not His Concern

Atiku Abubakar has criticized President Tinubu for attending a funeral in Plateau instead of visiting victims of insecurity.

He called the trip a “mockery of leadership” and a show of misplaced priorities.

Former Vice President and 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, has criticized President Bola Tinubu for attending a funeral in Plateau State instead of visiting communities affected by insecurity.

Tinubu was in Jos on Saturday for the burial of Mama Lydia Yilwatda, mother of the All Progressives Congress National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda.

In a post on his official X page, Atiku described the President’s trip as “a sad reflection of priorities and a mockery of leadership,” saying Tinubu chose comfort over compassion.

He said it was unfortunate that the President travelled to Plateau for a social event linked to his party instead of visiting victims of ongoing killings and displacement in the North Central region.

“With many parts of the country under siege from constant violence, it is disappointing that President Tinubu has not found it worthy to visit any of the affected states to console grieving citizens,” Atiku said.

He added that the President’s attendance at the event “under the auspices of his party’s national chairman” showed insensitivity and a lack of empathy.

“At a time when people are mourning, what we saw today is a display of disregard for compassion and the dignity of human life,” he said.

Atiku also accused the Tinubu administration of ignoring victims of attacks in states such as Benue, Niger, and Kwara, noting that during the President’s visit to Benue in June, he “never bothered to visit Yelewata, where the massacre took place.”

He said Tinubu’s latest visit to Plateau showed a pattern of “celebrating with the elite while citizens mourn,” warning that Nigerians were taking note of his actions.

“The people are watching, and they will remember,” Atiku said.
