Otti made the statement on Friday during the official visit of President Bola Tinubu to the state, represented by the Minister of Works, David Umahi. The governor said he has held discussions with the president over the matter and was confident that Kanu’s case was receiving positive consideration.

According to him, President Tinubu has a long history of keeping his word and would not go back on commitments already made. He added that he has been engaging directly with the president, who, in his view, has shown a willingness to resolve the matter. Otti stressed that the freedom of Kanu would ease tensions in the South-East and foster stability in the region.

Speaking on behalf of President Tinubu, Works Minister David Umahi urged the people of the South-East to remain peaceful and united as leaders at both the state and federal levels explore ways to resolve the situation. Umahi explained that governors of the region, alongside senators, federal lawmakers, and ministers, are working jointly on a political path toward a resolution.

He said the Federal Government, under Tinubu’s leadership, is committed to finding a peaceful solution, while calling on residents of the South-East to support the process through patience, cooperation, and adherence to the law.

Umahi expressed confidence that the president’s inclusive approach to governance and his recognition of the South-East in national development would help create the right environment for resolving the issue.
