Soludo Warns Officials to Stop Collecting Levies from Petty Traders
Governor Chukwuma Soludo has reaffirmed his ban on taxes and levies for petty traders in Anambra.
He warned officials against exploiting low-income earners and vowed to arrest anyone violating the order.
Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has reiterated his administration’s ban on collecting taxes and levies from petty traders across the state.

The governor issued the warning while addressing supporters during a rally in Ekwulobia, Aguata Local Government Area. He urged local authorities and market leaders to stop demanding any form of payment from small traders, especially those whose businesses are valued below ₦100,000.
Soludo said his attention was drawn to reports from Eke Market in Awgbu, where some revenue collectors were still charging poor traders despite an existing directive. “Don’t collect from them anymore. We will arrest anybody that goes ahead to disregard this. Our government is committed to protecting the livelihoods of petty traders,” he warned.
The governor reminded residents that his administration had, two years ago, abolished all forms of levies on petty traders, hawkers, barrow pushers, vulcanisers and similar low-income earners.
During the event, Soludo thanked the Ekwulobia community for their continued support for his government. He also received an ₦80 million donation from prominent indigenes of the town, presented to him and his deputy, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim, to boost their ongoing political activities.
