Ondo police have arrested ten suspects for a violent robbery and an alleged attempt to kill Oba Adeniyi Adinlewa of Igoba.
Weapons were recovered, and investigations are underway for prosecution.
The Ondo State Police Command has apprehended ten suspects linked to a violent robbery and an alleged attempt on the life of Oba Adeniyi Adinlewa John, the traditional ruler of Igoba community in Akure North Local Government Area.
Reports indicate that the armed gang stormed the community late on Thursday, October 2, 2025, attacking residents and stealing valuables at gunpoint. Several people were injured during the raid, and the assailants also targeted the monarch’s palace. However, Oba Adinlewa reportedly escaped unhurt.
Police spokesperson Funmilayo Ayanlade, who confirmed the arrests in a statement on Saturday, said officers immediately launched a coordinated response following distress calls from the area. According to her, the suspects were captured during a tactical operation led by senior officers from the command.
Ayanlade explained that the attackers arrived armed with guns, knives, charms, and other dangerous weapons, and during the operation, a resident identified as Mrs. Ogunoye Oluomo sustained serious injuries after being attacked and robbed. The hoodlums later proceeded to the palace, where they allegedly attempted to kill the monarch before fleeing the scene.
She added that the Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, ordered the rapid deployment of personnel and resources to restore calm and ensure the criminals were captured. The suspects, she noted, have since made confessional statements describing their roles in the attack.
Recovered items include two locally made pistols, a single-barrel gun, live ammunition, charms, knives, machetes, and other weapons believed to have been used in the operation.
Ayanlade further assured that the suspects would face prosecution once investigations are completed.
