Speaking in a recent interview with BellaNaija, Mercy reflected on how her success inspired confidence among women who dream of taking part in reality shows.

She explained that her journey to the Big Brother house took years of determination and preparation.

“Going for the show first of all, it comes with courage, comes with drive, comes with vision. When I auditioned for Big Brother, I had auditioned like four times before that time. So doing that for four years, cause when people hear four times, they think it’s today you go, no it’s for years that I auditioned before I got picked into the show. And I was ready, I was prepared. It wasn’t just given to me. I felt like I was ready.”

“Did you guys know that I calculated the days of the show, the Sundays that make up the 99 days, and I packed for that. I was ready. And when I won the show, I did it for all the young women who have been told that they can’t. I did it for all of us… I’m happy that I did it for all the young girls. You see, now we have other female winners and they can all say the same thing, we did it for ourselves, and we won’t be the first or the last. We still have more young ladies that will go on the show and ace it like we did,” she expressed.

Mercy added that Big Brother Naija changed her life completely and opened doors that might never have existed without the platform.

“I don’t think I will be here today even granting this interview without Big Brother Naija. They like changed my life for good, forever like I mean forever. No matter what I’m doing, no matter what I’ve done, I don’t think anything has topped what they’ve done for me. Because come on, without them maybe I would never have been discovered. So yeah, it’s thank you Big Brother Naija.”

Mercy Eke made history in 2019 as the first female winner of the Big Brother Naija reality show, marking a major milestone for women in the franchise’s history.
