Megbolu was sentenced on Monday, October 6, 2025, at the High Court in Edinburgh. The court also issued a non-harassment order, permanently prohibiting him from contacting or approaching the victim.

According to court findings, the incident occurred on August 21, 2023, in the Leith area of Edinburgh. The victim had asked Megbolu, who was then living in the Craigmillar area, to leave her home before he suddenly attacked her.

Delivering judgment, Judge Alistair Watson condemned the act, describing the harm caused to the victim as “particularly high.” He said: “Her evidence was that she was crying and shouting, and yet you continued with your conduct.”

The judge further noted that the offence happened in the victim’s residence a place where she was entitled to feel and be safe.

During the trial, Megbolu denied the charges but was convicted by a jury. Witnesses testified that the victim was visibly shaken and in distress after the assault. One acquaintance told the court that the victim said the attacker “flipped her over like a wrestling move.”

Megbolu’s defence counsel, Jonathan Campbell, acknowledged that imprisonment was unavoidable, describing his client as a married father of two who had been working in the care sector. He added that Megbolu was a first-time offender and would likely face deportation after serving his sentence.

Following the ruling, the court ordered that Megbolu’s name be entered permanently on the sex offenders’ register.
