Pastors Must Build Businesses to Help Members Prosper, Says Pastor Tobi
UK-based Nigerian pastor Tobi Adegboyega says pastors should build businesses that empower their members financially.
He argued that salvation without prosperity leaves believers vulnerable and promotes cycles of poverty.
UK-based Nigerian pastor Tobi Adegboyega has said that pastors must be “hardworking enough to set up businesses” that help their congregation prosper, adding that salvation without financial stability can lead people into sin.

Speaking during a recent conversation with content creator Shank, Adegboyega stressed that many churches fail their members by preaching only salvation without addressing their economic needs. He said true ministry should combine spiritual and financial empowerment to improve people’s lives.
“Their own pastors take from them. Me, I build communities to make people rich. Prosperity alongside salvation. You see it or you see young people that are prosperous. So it is salvation first.
According to him, it is not enough for pastors to be wealthy while their followers struggle. He emphasized that a true leader should help create systems that lift the congregation out of poverty.
“The church, your pastor, must now be hardworking enough to set up businesses that make you prosper, because if you have salvation and you are poor, you will sin last and last. If you have salvation and you are poor, you will sin. Yes, because you want to eat. Because you have no choice. Yes, because you want to eat. And that is the kind of churches we grew up in. The pastor will be rich, but the people will be poor.”
Adegboyega, who is known for his outspoken views on faith and wealth, said his goal is to build a community where prosperity and salvation coexist.
