The incident, which occurred on Saturday, October 4, 2025, was confirmed by a friend of the deceased, Asharif Dan Borno, in a Facebook post on Sunday.

According to him, the suspect attacked Muhammad after he refused to give him ₦1,000. “My dear friend, Alhaji Jidda Muhammad, was brutally m8rdered by a retired Boko Haram member near Mafa, Borno State,” he wrote.

“He was returning from Gomboru Ngala to Maiduguri when they stopped him, demanded ₦1,000, and upon his refusal shot him with an AK-47 rifle,” the post added.

Dan Borno lamented that the killing was not an isolated case, but part of a broader pattern of insecurity affecting residents in Borno, where some former insurgents allegedly operate freely despite their past crimes.

“This wasn’t just a robbery. It was an execution,” he said. “It shows the painful reality that many people in Borno live with daily where ex-insurgents extort and k!ll innocent civilians without consequence.”

He questioned how individuals once linked to terrorism could still operate within communities without strict oversight or accountability. “How did we get here? How can known terrorists operate unchecked while leadership remains silent? This is a failure of justice and protection,” he wrote.

As of the time of filing this report, neither the Borno State Police Command nor CJTF authorities had issued an official statement regarding the incident.
