30-Year-Old Mother of Four Commits Su!cide in Jigawa
Police in Jigawa have confirmed the death of 30-year-old Adama Hannafi, who took her own life in Sumore village.
Authorities said the mother of four had been battling mental illness.
A 30-year-old woman identified as Adama Hannafi has taken her own life in Sumore village, located in Dutse Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
The spokesperson for the Jigawa State Police Command, SP Shiisu Lawan Adam, confirmed the incident in a statement released on Tuesday, October 7, 2025. According to the report, the mother of four was found hanging from a tree in the village around 3 p.m.
Police investigations revealed that Hannafi had been struggling with mental health challenges before the tragic event. “At about 1500 hours, the Command received information that one Adama Hannafi, aged 30, of Auyakawa village in Dutse LGA, who was said to be mentally unstable, committed suicide by hanging herself from a tree at Sumore village,” the police statement noted.
Following the report, officers from the Yalwawa Division rushed to the scene, where they discovered the victim’s body still hanging. The police carefully brought down the body and examined it, confirming there were no signs of foul play. The remains were later taken to the Dutse General Hospital, where a medical doctor certified her dead.
SP Shiisu added that preliminary findings confirmed Hannafi had been battling mental illness for some time. She left behind her husband and four young children.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Dahiru Muhammad, described the incident as deeply saddening and urged families to pay closer attention to relatives showing signs of mental distress. He advised communities to seek early medical and psychological assistance for such individuals to prevent similar tragedies.
The Police Command also appealed to residents to immediately report any unusual or worrying behavior observed among members of their communities to the nearest police station or health facility for timely intervention.
