Gombe Government Establishes Information Technology and Digital Economy Commission
Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has signed a law establishing the Gombe Information Technology and Digital Economy Commission.
He said the agency will drive innovation, digital inclusion, and youth empowerment across the state.
The Gombe State Government has established the Information Technology and Digital Economy Commission (GITDEC), following the signing of a new law by Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya.

Governor Yahaya described the creation of the commission as a major step toward transforming Gombe into one of Nigeria’s leading technology-driven economies. He said the initiative reflects the state’s commitment to embracing innovation, digital inclusion, and economic growth in line with global technological trends.
“This Commission will serve as the engine room for innovation, digital inclusion, and economic empowerment across our state,” the governor stated after signing the law.

The new commission will oversee policies and programs related to ICT development, e-governance, digital literacy, and technological innovation. It will also promote skill acquisition among youths and women, support start-ups and innovation hubs, attract private investments into the digital economy, and enhance cybersecurity and data protection across government institutions.
During the formal handover ceremony, the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi, presented a copy of the newly assented law to the Commissioner for Science, Technology and Innovation, Professor Abdullahi Bappah Garkuwa, for implementation.
Professor Garkuwa praised the establishment of the commission as a milestone in the state’s journey toward digital advancement. He said the new body would bridge the gap between traditional governance and modern technology while creating new economic opportunities for citizens.
“This is about unlocking the full potential of our people and economy through smart, inclusive innovation,” he said.
The creation of GITDEC follows a series of recent partnerships between the Gombe State Government and national as well as international technology organizations, including the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and the Uniccon Group. These collaborations aim to boost digital infrastructure and expand technological capacity in the state.
