Zulum Rewards Anambra Health Worker With House, Offers Her Son Automatic Job

Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum has honored health worker Marbel Ijeoma Duaka with a furnished house for her service during insurgency.

He also offered her son automatic employment at a state university.

Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State has rewarded Mrs. Marbel Ijeoma Duaka, a health worker from Anambra State, with a fully furnished two-bedroom house in appreciation of her commitment and courage during the years of insurgency in the region.

Zulum also offered Duaka’s son, Anthony, a graduate of Banking and Finance, automatic employment at Kashim Ibrahim University, Maiduguri, to begin immediately.

Presenting the keys to the new home in Mafa Local Government Area on Tuesday, October 7, the governor commended Duaka’s dedication to public service, noting that she had worked at the Primary Healthcare Centre in Mafa for over two decades without abandoning her duty post, even at the height of Boko Haram attacks.

According to Zulum, Duaka remained in Mafa for 24 years without leaving her assignment for a single month, staying behind when many others fled. He explained that her work had touched many lives in the community, including members of his own family.

He directed that the property documents be issued in her name and encouraged her to continue serving the community even after retirement. “Your son will begin work immediately at Kashim Ibrahim University,” he added.

Mrs. Duaka was one of 72 health and education workers who received houses as part of the governor’s program to honour outstanding public servants and improve their welfare.

This gesture follows a similar recognition in 2022 when Zulum presented a house to Mrs. Obiageli Mazi, a teacher from Abia State, for her dedication and punctuality after 31 years of service in Borno.

Overwhelmed with emotion, Duaka said the recognition was the highlight of her career. She thanked the governor for his kindness and recalled that he had earlier sponsored her to obtain a degree in Health Education. “He has now given my son a job and blessed me with a house. I am deeply grateful,” she said.
