Lala Akindoju Reflects on Balancing Motherhood and Grief After Losing Her Father
Lala Akindoju has shared how she balanced motherhood and grief after losing her father weeks before giving birth.
She described the experience as a bittersweet season that tested her strength.
Nigerian actress and producer Lala Akindoju has opened up about her emotional journey of becoming a mother while dealing with the pain of losing her father.

In a heartfelt Instagram post, the award-winning filmmaker revealed that she welcomed her second child just weeks after her father’s passing, describing the experience as a “bittersweet season” that deeply tested her strength.
“Having a child and losing my daddy weeks apart was not something I hoped for neither was I ready for it. But having a child is such a divine, selfless, high calling because another human being literally depends on you for their survival,” she wrote.
Akindoju said the past year has been about balancing grief, motherhood, and her career, acknowledging how demanding it was to manage everything at once. She appreciated family, friends, and colleagues who supported her through the difficult period.
“Navigating building a career, grief, and being a new mum, breastfeeding, travelling and raising a 4-year-old, is no joke, and I don’t mince words when I say it has taken a village,” she said.
She also expressed gratitude to her husband, chef OritseGbubemi Fregene, popularly known as Chef Fregz, describing him as her “pillar of support” throughout the journey.
Akindoju and her husband got married in September 2018. They welcomed their first child in 2021 and their second in 2024.
