Peter Obi has warned against the fraudulent use of his name and image for fake online businesses.
He urged Nigerians to verify information and ignore deceptive adverts linking him to endorsements.
Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has cautioned individuals and groups against using his name and image to promote fake online businesses and fraudulent ventures.
In a statement personally signed and released on Thursday, Obi said his attention had once again been drawn to the activities of fraudsters exploiting his identity for personal and commercial gain despite repeated warnings from his aides.
He condemned the continued misuse of his image, describing it as “fraudulent, deceptive, and intended to take advantage of public trust.” Obi stated clearly that he has no connection with any promotional or commercial activity circulating online in his name.
“I wish to make it clear that I have no affiliation whatsoever with any of these endorsements or online promotions,” he said. “At no point have I authorized anyone, company, or online platform to use my name or picture for business purposes or profit-making.”
The former Anambra State governor urged Nigerians to be cautious and verify any content or advertisement linking him to business deals, stressing that such claims are entirely false. He advised members of the public to rely only on officially verified communication channels for authentic information about his activities.
Obi’s warning follows a rise in cases where online fraudsters impersonate prominent figures to defraud unsuspecting citizens. He called on security agencies to intensify efforts in tracking and prosecuting those behind such deceitful schemes, noting that these acts not only exploit public trust but also undermine the fight against cybercrime.
He reaffirmed his commitment to transparency and ethical conduct in public life, urging Nigerians to remain vigilant and avoid falling prey to individuals misusing his identity for personal gain.
