Shettima Tells Investors: Nigeria Has Moved Beyond Economic Instability, Now Ripe for Investment

Vice President Kashim Shettima has urged investors to seize what he called Nigeria’s most promising investment era.

He said recent reforms have stabilized the economy and restored investor confidence.

Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, has urged local and foreign investors to take advantage of what he described as the country’s most promising period for investment, saying Nigeria has moved past the era of economic instability.

He said this progress was the result of reforms introduced by President Bola Tinubu’s administration to remove long-standing barriers that had hindered economic growth and private sector confidence.

Speaking at the opening of the Bauchi Investment Summit 2025 on Wednesday, Shettima explained that the current government came into office in 2023 at a time when the economy was under severe strain, with debt service consuming nearly all government revenue.

According to him, the situation has since improved, with the debt service-to-revenue ratio now below 50 percent, and the country’s GDP growth reaching 4.23 percent as of the previous month.

He added that non-oil revenue had increased more than fourfold on a year-on-year basis, while Nigeria’s tax-to-GDP ratio had risen to 13.5 percent from about 7 percent in recent years. The nation’s debt-to-GDP ratio, he noted, stands at 38.8 percent well within both national and international limits while external reserves have climbed to 43 billion dollars as of September 2025.

Shettima emphasized that these figures reflect the country’s renewed economic strength and the government’s commitment to building a stable environment for investment.

He explained that President Tinubu’s first major policy decisions were aimed at dismantling the obstacles that had slowed Nigeria’s economic growth, stressing that sustainable development could only be achieved through lasting stability.
