Dangote Refinery Denies Importing Petrol With High Sulphur Content

Dangote Refinery has dismissed reports that it imported petrol with high sulphur content into Nigeria.

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has denied claims that it imported petrol with a high sulphur content into Nigeria, describing such reports as unfounded and misleading.

In a statement issued on Friday, the refinery clarified that the shipment being referenced was not finished petrol but an intermediate feedstock a semi-processed material that still requires refining before it becomes usable as petrol.

According to the company, the report alleging that it brought in low-quality or unsafe fuel was “false and malicious.” It stressed that importing intermediate feedstocks is standard practice among large-scale refineries around the world, as part of efforts to improve production efficiency and output quality.

“The shipment mentioned in those reports is not finished petrol but an intermediate feedstock that will undergo further refining in our facilities to meet both Nigerian and international standards,” the statement said.

The refinery explained that every product import is accompanied by a quality certification, which is shared with relevant regulatory agencies to ensure full compliance and transparency.

It further noted that all fuels refined and distributed by the company meet required national and global specifications. “Our exports to countries in Europe and the United States some of the most strictly regulated markets show our commitment to maintaining world-class quality standards,” the company added.
