Lagos Re-Arraigns Notorious Kidnapper Evans on Fresh Murder Charges

The Lagos State Government has re-arraigned convicted kidnapper Evans on fresh charges of murder and attempted murder.

Evans and his co-defendant, Joseph Emeka, pleaded not guilty before Justice A. O. Ogala.

The Lagos State Government has re-arraigned convicted billionaire kidnapper, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, popularly known as Evans, before the Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja on fresh charges linked to the murder of two police officers.

Evans appeared in court on Monday, October 13, alongside his co-defendant, Joseph Emeka. The duo faced a five-count charge before Justice A. O. Ogala, which includes murder, attempted murder, and conspiracy to commit kidnapping.

Both defendants pleaded not guilty to the new charges when read to them in court.

Evans, widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s most notorious kidnap kingpins, has been serving prison sentences after earlier convictions in two separate kidnapping cases. Despite his incarceration, he continues to face multiple ongoing trials connected to allegations of abduction, extortion, and murder of several victims across Lagos and other states.

The fresh charges are said to relate to violent attacks carried out against police officers during his years-long kidnapping operations, which authorities described as one of the most sophisticated ransom networks in the country’s history.

The prosecution informed the court that sufficient evidence has been gathered to proceed with trial, while the defense counsel requested adequate time to review the charges and prepare for their client’s defense.

Justice Ogala adjourned the case to a later date for the continuation of proceedings.
