According to a statement by NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, Emeka, who operates boutiques in Lagos and Anambra, was apprehended on Wednesday after arriving from Bangkok, Thailand, aboard Ethiopian Airlines flight ET 941.

Babafemi revealed that a body scan conducted on the suspect indicated he had ingested cocaine. “A total of 58 wraps were immediately recovered from his undergarments before he was placed under observation, during which he excreted another 69 wraps,” he said. “In all, 127 wraps weighing 1.388 kilograms were recovered.”

In the same statement released on Sunday, Babafemi disclosed that NDLEA operatives also intercepted three shipments of illicit drugs at a warehouse in Lagos. One of the shipments, weighing 1.74 kilograms of methamphetamine, was concealed inside glass ceramics, while others contained tramadol and pentazocine injections hidden in vitamin C containers. All were reportedly destined for the United Kingdom.

He further noted that NDLEA officers thwarted several attempts to smuggle drugs abroad, including black soap tablets filled with narcotics to Turkey, cocaine concealed in ladies’ handbags to Australia, and cannabis packed in herbal containers bound for the United Arab Emirates.

At the Lagos airport, operatives intercepted 27,510 Rohypnol pills hidden inside sachets of alcoholic drinks en route to South Africa. Three suspects, including a freight agent and a cab driver, were arrested in connection with the seizure.

In another operation, an Italy-based businessman, Enehizena Uyimwen, was apprehended for attempting to export 3,700 tramadol pills and 2,600 tapentadol tablets concealed in food items. He reportedly confessed to trafficking the drugs for someone in exchange for €945.

Across other states, NDLEA officers conducted raids leading to the recovery of 47 kilograms of skunk in Edo and over 700 kilograms in Osun. Significant seizures were also recorded in Rivers, Katsina, Niger, Ondo, and Kaduna, where large quantities of tramadol and Exol-5 pills were recovered.

NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.), commended the officers for their professionalism and unwavering commitment to combating drug trafficking, urging them to remain diligent in safeguarding the country from narcotic threats.
