Northern Leaders Visit Afenifere, Declare Support for Tinubu’s 2027 Re-election
Arewa Think Tank leaders met Afenifere’s Pa Reuben Fasoranti in Akure to endorse President Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid.
Both groups reaffirmed unity and support for his economic and governance reforms.
A group of northern leaders under the banner of the Arewa Think Tank has met with the pan-Yoruba socio-political organization, Afenifere, to express their support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.

The delegation, led by the group’s convener, Muhammad Yakubu, visited Afenifere’s National Leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, at his residence in Akure, Ondo State, on Monday. Yakubu explained that the group, chaired by former Kaduna State governor Muktar Yero, consists of professionals from the 19 northern states.
He said the visit was to strengthen ties between the North and South-West and to acknowledge Tinubu’s performance since taking office.
“We are here to renew our relationship with the South-West and to assure you that the North will stand by President Tinubu,” Yakubu said. “We are impressed with his leadership and midterm scorecard, and we believe he will continue to move Nigeria forward.”
He presented Tinubu’s “midterm scorecard” to Afenifere, praising the president’s commitment to national unity and development, adding that collaboration between both regions was vital for Nigeria’s progress.
Responding on behalf of Pa Fasoranti, former Secretary to the Government of the Federation and monarch of Ilu Abo, Oba Olu Falae, commended the northern delegation for seeking partnership with the South-West to support Tinubu’s administration.
Falae said the president had shown courage in implementing difficult but necessary reforms, particularly in removing fuel subsidy and unifying Nigeria’s multiple exchange rates.
“We thank God for giving us a president who understands Nigeria’s problems and has the courage to face them,” he said. “The removal of subsidy and multiple exchange rates was tough, but it was necessary for the economy.”
Falae noted that although the reforms initially caused hardship, they were beginning to yield positive results, with signs of gradual economic improvement.
He urged Nigerians to remain patient, saying the policies would eventually create a stronger foundation for national growth.
Also speaking, Afenifere’s Organizing Secretary, Abagun Kole Omololu, welcomed the northern leaders’ show of support and expressed confidence that President Tinubu would secure victory in the 2027 election.
