According to Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, North-East Operation Hadin Kai, the coordinated operations also led to the rescue of two kidnapped victims identified as Modu Kinnami and Bukar, both residents of Guzamala.

In a statement issued on October 11, Uba explained that the troops acted on credible intelligence on the movement of insurgents around Goni Dunari in Magumeri Local Government Area. The terrorists, who were reportedly moving in two vehicles with 24 foot soldiers, had been attacking communities and burning houses before troops launched an offensive to stop them.

“As our soldiers advanced, the terrorists attempted to escape toward Damjiyakiri village,” the statement said. “After about four hours of pursuit, contact was established, and a heavy exchange of fire ensued. Five terrorists were eliminated, while several others fled with gunshot wounds.”

Items recovered from the encounter included an AK-47 rifle, five magazines, 31 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, a mobile phone, and a dagger. The military reported no casualties or equipment losses during the operation.

In a separate engagement along the Gajiram–Bolori–Mile 40–Gajiganna axis, troops on motorcycles confronted another group of Boko Haram fighters near Zundur village. Four terrorists were k!lled in the ensuing firefight, while others escaped into nearby bushes.

During the operation, troops freed two abducted civilians and recovered N750,000 found in a sack. Further investigations revealed that the insurgents had demanded N2 million and two new button phones for the release of one of the victims’ relatives.

Other items seized included a blue pickup vehicle, two new Tecno phones, 30 litres of petrol, and N4.355 million in cash.

Lieutenant Colonel Uba added that troops continue to sustain pressure on terrorist elements across all operational fronts to disrupt their activities and restrict their movement within the region.
