Musa Urges Teammates to Celebrate His Birthday with Victory Over Benin

Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa has urged his teammates to gift him a birthday win against Benin Republic.

He said victory in today’s World Cup qualifier would be his best celebration yet.

Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa has appealed to his teammates to honor his birthday with a World Cup qualification win against the Benin Republic in Uyo.

In a short video posted on the team’s official X page, the 33-year-old said nothing would make him happier than a victory in today’s decisive Group C match.

“Today is my birthday,” Musa said. “We know what is at stake. I know you can do it. This will be the best birthday gift you can give me. I wish you all the best.”

Musa, Nigeria’s most-capped international, also urged the team to maintain the same energy and commitment they showed in their last outing, expressing confidence that they could secure the needed points.

The crucial encounter at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium will determine whether Nigeria keeps its qualification hopes alive. The Super Eagles, currently third in the group with 14 points, trail leaders Benin Republic by three points and South Africa by one.

Nigeria must defeat Benin and hope South Africa fails to beat Rwanda in Mbombela to stand a chance of progressing. Even if South Africa wins, a wide-margin victory could still keep Nigeria in contention for a play-off spot.

The Eagles will be without forward Ademola Lookman, who is serving a suspension, while defenders Ola Aina and Bright Osayi-Samuel are ruled out through injury.

Kick-off is scheduled for 5 p.m. in Uyo, with fans hoping the team can deliver both the three points and Musa’s special birthday wish.
