Alibaba has expressed support for polygamy, saying it can foster peace and cooperation in marriages.
He explained that multiple wives may help maintain harmony and reduce domestic conflict.
Veteran comedian Alibaba has said he believes in polygamy, arguing that having more than one wife can sometimes promote peace and balance in a household.
Speaking in an interview with media personality Nedu, Alibaba explained that polygamy could reduce conflict in marriages by encouraging cooperation among wives.
“Some people feel if it’s only one wife, you may not be able to control the wife,” he said. “But if the wife knows that you have more than one, she will calm down because she knows that if she misbehaves, another person is available.”
He recalled that in traditional settings like Ibadan, some women even encouraged their husbands to take another wife to prevent infidelity and maintain harmony at home.
The comedian also cited cultural practices where widows were married to a late husband’s brother to ensure their welfare and the care of their children, describing it as another form of socially beneficial polygamy.
Alibaba concluded that while not everyone supports the idea, he believes polygamy remains relevant in some cultural and practical contexts.
