Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party. The announcement was confirmed on Wednesday through a Facebook post by his Chief Press Secretary, Daniel Alabrah.

According to the statement, Diri stepped down from the PDP along with the Speaker of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Abraham Ingobere, and all members of the state legislature who were elected under the party. The move is said to have taken place during the weekly State Executive Council meeting held at Government House, Yenagoa.
The governor’s decision has ended months of speculation about his possible defection to another political party. However, Alabrah did not disclose Diri’s next political destination, though reports suggest that discussions have been ongoing with key figures from the All Progressives Congress.
Sources also revealed that Diri has submitted his resignation letter to the party leadership. It is believed that members of the State Executive Council have followed suit by stepping down in solidarity with the governor.
When contacted for further clarification, Alabrah declined to comment, stating briefly that he could not speak at the moment. Efforts to reach the state PDP chairman, Solomon Agwanana, were unsuccessful as calls to his phone went unanswered.
