Ex-Convict Arrested for Beating Girlfriend to De@th in Ondo
The Ondo State Police have arrested a 37-year-old ex-convict, Omokinwa Ademola, for allegedly k!lling his girlfriend during a quarrel.
Police said the suspect assaulted her over a ₦100,000 debt dispute in Idanre.
The Ondo State Police Command has apprehended a 37-year-old ex-convict, Omokinwa Ademola, for allegedly beating his girlfriend, Joy Jimoh, to de@th in Idanre Local Government Area of the state.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka Olushola, disclosed the arrest in a statement issued on Tuesday, October 14, 2025. According to him, the incident occurred following a heated disagreement between the suspect and the victim over the repayment of ₦100,000, which Ademola had borrowed from her.
Olushola explained that a woman identified as Ngozi Gregory, aged 45, reported the case at the Idanre Divisional Police Headquarters on October 7, 2025, at about 5:30 p.m. She alleged that the suspect assaulted Joy during the argument, hitting her multiple times until she became unconscious.
The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital but was confirmed de@d by medical personnel.
“Upon receiving the report, the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Idanre promptly led a team of detectives to the scene, where the suspect was arrested. The corpse of the deceased was deposited at the morgue for post-mortem examination while investigations commenced immediately,” the statement added.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, described the incident as a tragic and unacceptable act of violence. He vowed that the command would ensure justice for the victim and her family, stressing that the police would not tolerate any form of domestic brutality or abuse.
Lawal also directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) for thorough investigation and prosecution, assuring that the command remains committed to upholding the rule of law and protecting citizens from gender-based violence.
