Finance Minister Wale Edun Flown to UK for Medical Care
Finance Minister Wale Edun has travelled to London for medical care after falling ill in Abuja.
Officials say his condition is stable and deny reports of a possible cabinet replacement.
Nigeria’s Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, has reportedly travelled to the United Kingdom for medical treatment after falling ill.

Presidency insiders confirmed the development on Tuesday, noting that the minister had been unwell for several days. He was said to have first received medical attention from doctors at his Abuja residence before leaving for Lagos on Monday night. From there, he boarded a British Airways flight to London for further treatment.
Sources close to the matter revealed that although Edun’s health challenge required medical attention, it was not as critical as earlier speculated in some quarters. They also dismissed circulating claims that he had suffered a stroke.
“The situation was managed locally for a while before the decision was made for him to travel abroad for proper evaluation,” one official explained.
The Presidency has also refuted rumors suggesting that President Bola Tinubu intends to replace Edun, insisting that he remains a key part of the administration’s economic team.
Due to his health condition, the minister will be absent from the ongoing World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF) Annual Meetings in Washington, D.C., where the Central Bank Governor, Olayemi Cardoso, is currently leading Nigeria’s delegation.
