Actor Opebe Reveals He Was Beaten for Real During Movie Shoot
Actor Yomi King, known as Opebe, revealed that some on-set beatings he received early in his career were real.
He recounted being genuinely beaten by Yinka Quadri during a movie scene.
Veteran comic actor Yomi King, popularly known as Opebe, has revealed that some of the beatings he received during movie shoots early in his career were not scripted but real.

Speaking on the Behind The Fame Podcast on YouTube, Opebe explained that many of his on-set experiences went beyond acting and involved actual physical pain.
“Those sufferings were beyond acting; they were real beatings. That’s what they call acting, you have to do it well and real for people to know it truly happened. Baba Suwe doesn’t mind. Anyone that knows him well knows he will beat you directly; ask the director,” he said.
Recalling a particular experience, Opebe narrated how a personal misunderstanding with actor Yinka Quadri turned serious while filming the Yoruba movie Eku Meji.
He explained that because he had supported Baba Suwe during an earlier disagreement, Yinka Quadri took it out on him during a fight scene.
“That movie Eku Meji, I had a role with Yinka where he ought to fight me and beat me. And you know that Opebe is lame. I and Yinka didn’t talk to each other. But when we got to the set, it was a beating role. He slapped and beat me severely. I began to shout, ‘Cut! This isn’t a movie anymore.’ I was angry,” he said.
According to Opebe, the beating was personal, and Yinka later laughed, saying, “In your life, you won’t interfere in people’s fights again.”
The actor said he learned a hard lesson that day, never to take sides in other people’s quarrels.
