ADC Accuses Tinubu of Plotting One-Party State as PDP Governors Defect to APC
The African Democratic Congress has accused President Tinubu of plotting a one-party state following recent PDP defections to the APC.
It said the move betrays democracy and abandons suffering Nigerians.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has alleged that the increasing number of defections by opposition governors to the All Progressives Congress (APC) is proof of President Bola Tinubu’s plan to turn Nigeria into a one-party state.
In a statement on Wednesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the party described the defections as “acts of political betrayal,” saying the defecting governors had abandoned the people who elected them for selfish political gain.
“The defections of the governors of Enugu and Bayelsa to the APC confirm our long-held warning that President Tinubu is determined to establish a one-party state regardless of the damage to democracy and national stability,” Abdullahi said.
He added that while it may seem the APC is expanding its control, the real victims are citizens left behind by leaders who joined the same government responsible for their economic hardship. “These defections do not strengthen democracy; they weaken it. The people have been deserted by governors who now align with the party that has inflicted untold suffering on Nigerians,” he said.
Abdullahi lamented that Nigerians continue to endure hardship under the APC-led administration, citing persistent inflation, unemployment, and insecurity. “The realities are clear Nigerians live through the failures of this government every day. Even former APC supporters now shy away from associating with the party,” he noted.
The ADC spokesperson accused the Tinubu administration of failing in every key area of governance, including security, the economy, healthcare, social welfare, and the fight against corruption. He said the defecting governors betrayed their democratic mandate by joining what he described as “a grand conspiracy against the Nigerian people.”
“When those in power misgovern, the opposition should stand up for the people and present alternative ideas. Instead, these governors chose personal comfort over public service,” Abdullahi said.
Despite the defections, the ADC expressed confidence that Nigerians have become more politically conscious and will make informed choices in the 2027 general elections. “The next election will not just be about political parties it will be between the Nigerian people and the ruling party that has driven millions into poverty,” Abdullahi stated.
He concluded that while the APC celebrates the defections, the opposition remains united in purpose. “The line is now clearly drawn between those who seek to save the country and those joining the gravy train. Nigerians are watching, and 2027 will tell,” he said.
