Wike Slams Peter Obi Over Comments on FCT Schools, Urges Him to Rebuild Political Career

Nyesom Wike has cautioned Peter Obi against what he called attention-seeking criticism of his administration.

Wike’s aide said Obi should focus on rebuilding his political relevance instead.

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has warned former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, to refrain from what he described as “attention-seeking criticisms” of his administration.

The caution came in a statement issued on Thursday, October 16, by Wike’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication and Social Media, Lere Olayinka. He urged Obi to focus on reviving his political career instead of “turning himself into a critic of everything, including the most ridiculous.”

Obi had earlier visited LEA Primary School in Kapwa, Abuja, where he described the condition of public schools in the FCT as “a national disgrace” and evidence of Nigeria’s “empty commitment to education.”

Responding, Olayinka said the Wike-led FCT Administration was achieving tangible progress through what he termed “real and verifiable development.” According to him, “Seventy-three schools are currently under renovation across the six Area Councils, while twenty-one have been fully completed.”

He noted that although some schools still need government intervention, Wike’s leadership has made significant strides in improving education in the capital. “Unlike Obi, who failed to uplift the education sector during his eight years as governor, the FCTA has awarded 102 contracts for school renovation projects, twenty-one of which are already completed,” Olayinka stated.

He further challenged Obi to present evidence of how many schools he built in Anambra, arguing that if his claims of performance were genuine, the state would have become a model of progress. Olayinka also accused the former governor of hoarding state funds in his private bank instead of investing in public infrastructure.

“Anambra is still suffering from the neglect of his administration, and his successors are struggling to repair the damage,” he alleged.

Describing Obi as an “Internally Displaced Politician,” Olayinka mocked his political standing ahead of 2027. “It’s amusing that someone uncertain of his platform for the next election has turned into a political wanderer,” he added, questioning whether any party would offer Obi a presidential ticket “based on old tales of modesty that no longer impress Nigerians.”
