DJ Big N Says Fame Has Lost Its Value in Today’s Digital Age

DJ Big N has voiced concern over how easy it has become to gain fame in today’s digital world.

He said true celebrity status once earned through talent is now diluted by social media trends.

Popular Nigerian disc jockey, Nonso Temisan Ajufo, better known as DJ Big N, has lamented the loss of exclusivity in modern fame, saying that becoming a celebrity no longer requires real talent or hard work.

Speaking on the Echo Room Podcast, the Mavin Records DJ said the digital era has made fame easily accessible to anyone with an internet connection, leading to a dilution of what it truly means to be a star.

“Fame has been decentralized. The barrier to entry is very low. Before, celebrities were real celebrities. Right now, anybody can become one. I can say nonsense online five times, get verified, and start doing adverts, that’s celebrity,” he said.

He recalled that in the past, artists like Phyno and Olamide commanded respect and had a strong presence that made them stand out, unlike today when viral content creators often gain the same attention as top musicians.

“The same person listening to Davido, Rema, Burna Boy, or Wizkid can switch to watch Carter Efe or Peller. Everything is now decentralized,” he added.
