Kaduna Police Station Attacked by Gunmen, Two Officers Killed
Gunmen attacked a police station in Zonkwa, Kaduna State, killing two officers on Friday evening.
Witnesses said the attackers opened fire while trying to free suspected vandals in custody.
Armed men on Friday evening attacked a police station in Zonkwa, Zangon Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna State, killing at least two officers.
The assailants reportedly stormed the station, located near Kamyim Hotel in the Kurmin-Bi area of Zonkwa, and began shooting indiscriminately, sending residents into panic.
Eyewitnesses said the gunmen were believed to be attempting to rescue some suspected vandals earlier arrested in Kachia town, mistakenly assuming they were being held at the Zonkwa Police Station. However, it was later discovered that the suspects were not in custody at the facility.
A local resident who witnessed the incident but preferred not to be named said the attackers opened fire immediately upon arrival, leaving destruction and casualties before fleeing.
A security source confirmed the attack, while videos circulating online showed two police officers lying lifeless in uniform as residents gathered at the scene.
Authorities said normalcy has since been restored to the area, though the Kaduna State Police Command has yet to issue an official statement regarding the assault.
