Nigerian Army Frees 21 Abducted Persons, Including 4 Chinese Nationals

Troops of the Nigerian Army have rescued 21 kidnapped victims during coordinated missions across Kwara and Kogi States.

This was confirmed in a statement issued by Lieutenant Colonel Polycarp Okoye, Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for the 2 Division of the Nigerian Army. He said the successful rescue mission was jointly carried out by soldiers from the 12 Brigade in Lokoja and the 22 Armoured Brigade in Ilorin.

According to the statement, the rescued victims included 14 men, five women, one infant, and four Chinese nationals. They were reportedly abducted from different locations within the two states. The Army said the captives regained freedom after troops launched intensified operations that forced the kidnappers to flee, abandoning their victims. Some of those rescued had spent more than four months in captivity.

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 2 Division and Commander of Sector 3, Operation FANSAN YAMA, Major General C.R. Nnebeife, personally supervised the operation and ensured that the victims received immediate care. He said they were provided with first aid treatment and relief materials to help them recover from the trauma experienced during their ordeal.

Major General Nnebeife assured that the Nigerian Army would maintain its ongoing efforts to eliminate criminal groups across its operational areas, adding that there would be no safe haven for bandits. The rescued individuals have since been moved to a military medical facility for further medical evaluation and care.
