Onanuga Urges Sanction Against Nnamdi Kanu’s Lawyer for Joining Abuja Protest
Presidential aide Bayo Onanuga has called for disciplinary action against Nnamdi Kanu’s lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor.
He said joining the #FreeNnamdiKanu protest violates legal ethics while the case is still in court.
The Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, has urged legal authorities in Nigeria to discipline Aloy Ejimakor, one of the lawyers representing detained IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu, for taking part in the ongoing #FreeNnamdiKanu protest in Abuja on Monday, October 20.

In a statement posted on his X account, Onanuga criticized Ejimakor’s involvement in the protest organized by activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore.
He said Ejimakor’s decision to join the demonstration was inappropriate, as Kanu’s case is still being heard in court. According to him, such an action violates legal ethics and the principle of sub judice, which forbids public discussion or influence on matters pending before the judiciary.
“I saw Aloy Ejimakor, one of Nnamdi Kanu’s lawyers, among the few protesters gathered in Abuja by Omoyele Sowore. As a lawyer, he should know that Kanu’s trial is ongoing and that his duty is to defend him in court, not to join public protests,” Onanuga stated.
He further accused Ejimakor of abandoning his professional responsibility to pursue legal advocacy through proper channels. Onanuga added that the lawyer’s participation in the protest could be viewed as an attempt to pressure the court through non-legal means and called on legal regulatory bodies to review his conduct and take necessary action.
