Speaking during a recent interview on The Honest Bunch Podcast, the Afro-Juju pioneer revealed several surprising details about his youth, including how he became a father at just 14.

In his words:

“In this interview, I will not hide anything, I will be blunt. I started my career at the age of 10. I had my first child at 14, I bought my first car at 13, I built my first house at 16, and I was already going to court, three cases in a day, when I was 16 or 17.”

Shina Peters, who dominated Nigeria’s music scene in the late 80s and 90s, also revealed that most of his supporters come from the South-East. “65% of my fans are Igbos, not Yorubas,” he said.

Addressing fans who have been calling for new music, the veteran singer admitted that the creative environment no longer inspires him as it once did.

“Ah! Give us another music, give us new this. I don’t just go to the studio. I can’t go to the studio. The atmosphere isn’t conducive for me. I don’t know what to sing,” he added.
