Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Sunday night, October 19, 2025, the former Central Bank Governor said the prosperity of the Igbo people is tied to Nigeria’s unity. He clarified that although he respects the right to peaceful protest, he does not support the secessionist movement led by Nnamdi Kanu of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Soludo condemned the devastating effects of the Monday sit-at-home order, describing it as self-destructive. “If you claim to be protesting or agitating for something and end up killing your own people or destroying livelihoods, you’re hurting your future,” he said. He added that improved security and awareness in Anambra have rendered the sit-at-home obsolete, saying those who still observe it do so by personal choice, not fear.

The governor noted that IPOB leaders, including Kanu, have disowned the sit-at-home directive, blaming criminal gangs for hijacking it to cause unrest. He also emphasized that his focus remains on governance, not activism, while calling for collective leadership to address the region’s challenges.

Soludo disclosed that he has encouraged Ohanaeze Ndigbo and other South-East leaders to initiate dialogue with Kanu once he regains freedom, insisting that the region’s future should be decided collectively, not by one person.

Reaffirming his belief in a united country, Soludo said, “The Igbo need Nigeria, and Nigeria needs the Igbo. We are a people who thrive everywhere, and we cannot afford isolation. Our diversity as a nation is a divine gift.”

His remarks follow renewed calls for Nnamdi Kanu’s release, with figures like Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and activist Omoyele Sowore backing the #FreeNnamdiKanuNow movement.
