The tragic incident happened on October 17, 2025, in Wailo town, Ganjuwa Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

Police spokesperson, CSP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, confirmed the case in a statement released on Monday, October 20. According to him, the suspect lured his sister into a nearby bush, where he attacked her and removed both eyes.

“The victim was taken to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), Bauchi, for treatment,” Wakil said. “Sadly, a medical specialist confirmed that she will never regain her sight.”

He added that five other suspects linked to the crime have been arrested. The police listed them as Mohammed Rabiu (19), Saleh Ibrahim (20), Nasiru Muhammad, Hassan Garba, and Garba Dahiru (43), all residents of Soro town in the same local government area.

Wakil stated that a preliminary investigation revealed that Auwalu carried out the act in an attempt to acquire wealth through ritual means. The girl’s father confirmed that his son tricked his younger sister into the bush before attacking her.

“The suspects have confessed to the crime,” the police spokesman added. “The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a thorough and professional investigation.”
