Edo Government Orders Probe into Obaseki-Era Projects
The Edo State Government has ordered a probe into two major projects launched under former Governor Godwin Obaseki.
Governor Monday Okpebholo directed lawmakers to investigate the Radisson Blu Hotel and MOWAA projects.
The Edo State Government has approved an investigation into two major projects initiated under former Governor Godwin Obaseki. The decision, endorsed by Governor Monday Okpebholo, is aimed at reviewing the state’s financial commitments and the progress made on the projects.

In a letter dated October 8, 2025, and signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Musa Ikhilor, the government formally requested the Edo State House of Assembly to open a legislative inquiry. The correspondence, addressed to the Speaker, Blessing Agbebaku, specifically called for an oversight investigation into the Radisson Blu Hotel project and the Museum of West African Arts (MOWAA).
According to the letter, the exercise is intended to determine the actual status of both projects, evaluate the level of state participation, and confirm the extent of public funds invested. Lawmakers have been instructed to summon contractors, consultants, and all relevant ministries or agencies connected to the initiatives.
The development follows the findings of an Assets Verification Committee established by Governor Okpebholo shortly after he assumed office. The committee had been tasked with identifying and documenting all state-owned assets and liabilities as of November 2024, and its report reportedly raised questions about the two projects.
The Secretary to the State Government noted that the committee’s recommendations prompted the call for a formal probe, stressing that the administration is keen on clarifying the state’s position and ensuring transparency in public spending.
The Edo State House of Assembly is expected to constitute an ad-hoc committee on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, to begin the inquiry and present its report to the executive council.
