A Nigerian student, Edidion Effiong Okokon, has died in the UK after battling a lung-related illness.
The Teesside University graduate passed away on October 17, with friends now raising funds for his burial.
A Nigerian student, Edidion Effiong Okokon, has passed away in the United Kingdom after a prolonged battle with a lung-related illness.
According to the Nigerian community in the UK, Okokon was an international student at Teesside University. He arrived in the country in January 2023, eager to begin his studies and pursue new opportunities.
However, a few months into his stay, his health began to deteriorate after being diagnosed with a severe lung condition. Despite receiving treatment and support from friends and well-wishers, he eventually succumbed to the illness on October 17.
Okokon had successfully completed his degree in May 2025 but, tragically, did not live long enough to make use of it.
Friends and members of the Nigerian student community have since begun raising funds to enable the repatriation of his remains to Nigeria for burial.
