Nigerian Juju legend Sir Shina Peters has claimed he has more classic songs than Michael Jackson.
He made the statement while discussing music legacy and evergreen hits on The Honest Bunch podcast.
Veteran Nigerian Juju musician Oluwashina Akanbi Peters, popularly known as Sir Shina Peters, has stirred reactions after boldly claiming that he has more classic songs than late American pop legend Michael Jackson.
Speaking on The Honest Bunch podcast, the 67-year-old music icon said the greatest legacy any artist can leave behind is the number of timeless or “evergreen” songs in their catalogue.
According to him, achieving such feats defines true success in the music industry. He said:
“The only thing you can show for showbiz at the end is how many evergreens you have produced. To my credit, I have four evergreens. Even Michael Jackson has just two; Of The World and Thriller. So, if I have four, I am accomplished.”
Sir Shina Peters, however, expressed concern over the current state of Nigeria’s music scene, lamenting that many of the values and standards set by his generation of artists have been “bastardised” by today’s musicians.
