INEC Reports Over Eight Million Online Voter Registrations Nationwide Ahead of 2026 Elections

INEC says over eight million Nigerians have completed online registration in the ongoing voter registration exercise.

The commission noted that youths and women make up the majority of the new registrants nationwide.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that more than eight million Nigerians have completed their online registration in the ongoing nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.

According to data released by the commission, a total of 8,003,196 registrations were recorded between October 13 and 19, 2025, marking the ninth week of the exercise.

Women accounted for a slight majority of the registrants, with 4,190,890 entries (52.37%), while men represented 3,812,306 (47.63%). Young Nigerians between the ages of 18 and 34 made up the largest group, totaling 5,533,514 (69.14%). Those aged 35–49 contributed 1,678,212 (20.97%), and citizens between 50–69 years accounted for 704,866 (8.81%).

Students formed the highest occupational group with 2,018,967 registrations (25.23%), followed by businesspersons with 1,659,690 (20.74%). Persons with disabilities (PWDs) made up 182,718 registrations, representing 2.29% of the total.

At the state level, Imo led with 826,850 registrations (10.32%), followed by Lagos with 604,619 (7.56%) and Ogun with 510,062 (6.37%). Yobe State recorded the lowest figure at 2,714 (0.03%).

INEC noted that voter registration remains suspended in Anambra State under Section 9(6) of the Electoral Act 2022, pending the conclusion of the November 8 governorship election.

So far, 1,710,450 Nigerians have completed both online pre-registration and biometric capture, with 956,566 finishing online and 753,884 completing the process at physical centers.

Youth participation continues to dominate the completed registrations, with 1,261,288 individuals aged 18–34 making up 73.74% of the total. Women again outnumbered men, representing 55.27% compared to 44.73%. PWDs accounted for 24,207 (1.41%) of completed registrations.

Students also led in completed registrations with 566,391 (33.11%), followed by businesspersons (316,295 or 18.49%) and housewives (259,932 or 15.28%).

Among states, Osun topped the list of completed registrations with 151,593, followed by the Federal Capital Territory (106,855), Kano (96,280), Imo (90,469), Lagos (85,831), and Rivers (28,507).

INEC emphasized that all figures are provisional and subject to validation through the Automated Biometric Identification System (ABIS), which will remove duplicate and invalid registrations to maintain the accuracy of the voter database.
