Omoyele Sowore has reportedly been arrested by police at the Federal High Court in Abuja.

Lawyer Inibehe Effiong condemned the arrest, calling it an assault on justice and demanding his release.

Human rights activist and Sahara Reporters publisher, Omoyele Sowore, has reportedly been arrested by police officers at the Federal High Court in Abuja.

Sowore 232

The news of his arrest was made public by human rights lawyer, Inibehe Effiong, in a post shared on X. Effiong criticised the police and the current administration for what he described as an attack on the judicial system. According to him, Sowore’s arrest was “preposterous” and an embarrassment to the rule of law. He demanded his immediate release, saying, “Stop the shenanigans.”

Earlier on Wednesday, Sowore had shared on Facebook that he was present at the Federal High Court with senior lawyer Kanu Agabi, who is leading the legal team of Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). Sowore revealed that Agabi’s team planned to withdraw from the case, leaving Kanu to face trial without legal representation.
